Our Vicious Oaths

This whole review is going to be mostly me saying “OMG, this book is amazing” in various combinations of words. Because it was. Our Vicious Oaths is EVERYTHING that I love about fantasy books, all wrapped up in a delicious bow of enemies-to-lovers romance with a ribbon of political intrigue and a glitter bomb of friends being the family that you choose.

Kadeesha starts off an a strong leader, with the loyalty of her Nkita and Kongamato keeping her up while she faces the looming marriage of herself to the Hyperion King (spoiler alert: NOT a good guy) and loss of her freedoms. Malachi beings as the Shadow Daddy of all Shadow Daddies, the young leader of the Apollyon Court ready to take revenge on those that killed his family and other court leaders when he was younger. What he doesn’t expect is for Kadeesha to very quickly throw a giant wrench in all his carefully laid plans…

The tension between Kadeesha and Malachi is palpable. Their bickering and negotiating for the lives of their respective peoples underlying a pull between them that they both brush aside as nothing more that physical attraction for most of their time together as Kadeesha and Malachi create a plan to avenge his kingdom and save her court from the Hyperion King.

I love the heat, the banter, the loyal AF friends that have Kadeesha and Malachi’s backs through everything (the definition of loyalty). I love how both of them are morally flexible, in service to their people. But they manage to bend a little for each other, to become even better in the face of their common enemy. Plus, we have bonded flying serpents that add the cherry on top to an already amazing story.

The pacing was perfect, and I flew through this book in about a day. I wasn’t even finished with it before I went to pre-order my own copy, I loved it that much. If you love fantasy and romance, I highly recommend Our Vicious Oaths!

I read an early copy as an ARC from Netgally and the publisher. All opinions are my own.
