For a while, I was in a minimalist stage. Not a lot on the walls. The only thing I really collected were books. And while I am still minimalist-ish in some areas (like my clothes and general household items), I have gone back to embracing my need for art on the walls. I don’t like empty walls (for me). I want cozy. Lived in. A space that feels like a collection of all of my favorite things. These images are the process of creating a gallery on the huge wall that is above my bookshelves and TV. For the longest time, it was blank. Then, I added the IKEA picture rails and a few items I had in storage (the piece of poster with wildflowers of where I grew up, the patches collected on travels as a kid, and the book plate from Dante’s Inferno that I found in a second-hand bookshop in New Orleans).

After going to the World Oddities Expo and finding new art, as well as pulling out some of the art cards I had received from book purchases/Patreon memberships, I went about getting frames from the thrift store and adding to the wall. And once I started, I had to get it full.

I dug out some of my own dabbles in artwork (acrylic painting). I found some simple items at the Dollar Tree to fill in gaps (mini canvases and mirrors). I found more art and postcards that I could frame. I also bought more thrift store frames and filled them with art cards and wrapping ribbon. It feels a bit haphazard, but it is also very much me. Random treasures to share and show off. I can always swap out what is in the frames if I find new art. I also have other wall space I can use. But this – this is me. Busy, but cozy. Lived in. Finally like home.
I also started adding things to other walls in the main living areas (my bedroom is already full of posters and prints related to TV and movies).
