Books and Cozy Chaos

Circus of Fools

Naomi Loud has given us the next installment of the Perverse City series, and it is just as chaotic and dark and sexy as the first one (A Dance Macabre). Gemini & Veil are a delicious game of push and pull. Gemini is beautiful chaos, while Veil slowly twists into a queen who isn’t afraid to hold others to the fire. The gods of Pravitia have plans, and Perverse City keeps getting darker and more unhinged as things reach the precipice of change and shake up decades of alliances and enemies.

Veil is a pawn, meant to be prey for Gemini until he heeds a message from the gods to let her go, only to catch her later. And once the thieving Veil is held captive in his domain, she is transformed into a doll, a plaything for Gemini to toy with until he decides to dangle freedom at her feet. Freedom that comes with leashes and caveats and bargains that are half-truths.

Gemini is playing with secrets. He knows there is more to the mystery of Veil and why she was placed in his path. And he will use every trick, every secret, and every thinly veiled truth to get answers. But what he doesn’t expect is for his own tricks to come back to haunt him as Veil learns exactly what her place is in Pravitia and Perverse City.

Everyone revels in excess while simultaneously dealing with each other in ways both intimate and treacherous. We see more of the other servants of the gods, and get hints at what is to come. There are secrets that come to light at inopportune moments, and destinies revealed that create new plays for power. In this world, fate can be a dangerous thing…
