Books and Cozy Chaos

May Book Recap

This month (well, last month but getting posted now), I’m sharing quotes from all the books I finished. Bride was better than I expected. I had been putting off reading it since it came out because it seemed so overhyped, I wasn’t sure it would hold up. I was very happily proven wrong, it was sharp and fresh and for a mostly single POV book, had great depth of character.

Ruthless Vows is the finale to Roman and Iris’ story begun in Divine Rivals. I love them as a couple and Iris as an FMC on her own. The first half of the book was a bit slow, but it picked up and the ending was both beautiful and sad.

Sunbringer is book 2 in the Fallen Gods series. It did suffer a bit from “sophomore slump” IMO, but mostly because the pacing felt so much slower than book 1 (Godkiller). I still love these characters and this world though, and the end sets up a great showdown for book 3.

Marrow is in the vein of Butcher and Blackbird, but didn’t quite manage to capture the sheer delight and sharpness of that book. Still fun though. Full of serial unaliving and mystery and a good adversaries to lovers relationship.

I went on a bit of a Chloe Maine age-gap smut binge this May. Her stories are short, fun, spicy, and definitely hit the taboo-ish buttons. But they are also incredibly sweet and all the guys are just down for the girl from the drop.

All the audiobooks this month were rereads. My library got the newly released Emily Rath audiobooks in Libby, so I had to check them all out. The narrators for Whiskey & Sin were perfect! Silas and Bear are some of my favorite omegaverse characters. And I was very pleasantly surprised that The Ritual was a duet audio! I love a good dual or single narrator audiobook, but there is something about a well-cast duet that makes me incredibly happy and can bring a good book on paper to life in audio form.
