I hesitated for so long to read this because of all the hype and everything surrounding its initial release. I am happy to say that Bride lived up to everything, and was so much fun. Misery definitely has some Gilmore Girls-esque wit, and the whole thing felt a little bit like a snarky rom-com. Albeit one mixed with an arranged marriage, mates, slow-burn, and a lil’ mystery thrown in for good measure. With vampires and werewolves (and humans).
Lowe and Misery and Ana (I loved Ana!) were perfect. The rest of the characters were also well-written, and the relationships felt real and not surface-level. Seeing Lowe and Misery unravel for one another was so damn good. I also loved how Misery managed to handle herself when for so long no one really seemed to care about her, only what she could do for them. Her relationship with Ana rivaled that of her and Lowe for being my favorite.
I do wish we had a bit more from the Lowe perspective, but overall this one was funny and emotional and exactly what I needed to get out of my mini reading slump. And any book that has a character named Misery gets bonus points from me.
