Books and Cozy Chaos

Notebooks and Calendars

I’m finding that this Spring semester, it’s harder for me to dedicate large chunks of time to writing (of any kind) that does not revolve around class materials preparation. When I started writing here more consistently, I would batch 2 to 3 weeks worth of posts, so I didn’t feel as if I was having to play catch-up all the time. That period of time is long gone. Now, I’m writing day-of sometimes. There was a moment where I thought about cutting back on how often I posted, but I do like having something to keep me at least a little accountable to writing that is not work-related. So, for now the M/W/F posting schedule remains. There are brief flashes of thought where I think about writing every day, but I know that is in no way sustainable for me right now. Maybe a long-term goal. A VERY long-term goal.

As for the nugget of inspo for today’s post: notebooks and calendars. I pretty consistently use my digital Apple/iCloud calendar to keep me on track with appointments and major schedules, but I have started and discarded many a physical paper planner over the years. Part of my issue is that I never seem to find THE ONE that fits all my needs. I have a day planner PDF page that I have posted here (on the Templates page), but I have found I don’t like keeping my daily planner list and to-do’s digital. I like physical for those versions. I could print out multiple of my planner page and bind them, but that’s more effort than I can muster right now. As evidenced by the fact that I am writing posts day-of publishing at the moment.

Bullet journals have been a thing of my past, and I am attempting a version of them again for my physical planner/notebook right now. I like the idea that it is more of a “to-do list” with flexibility. I really just like being able to see things get check off a list. And I can have a basic month for important dates. And then add any notes/trackers/etc. as needed. I currently have a bullet journal from Amazon (not an affiliate link) that has over 300 pages. That is my other issue. A lot of journal planners have limited page numbers, which means they may only last a few months or so depending on what you need them for. This one seems like a good option to last at least 6 months, if not close to the entire year. And the pages are already numbered, which I love.

I’m only a few days into this new option, so we’ll see how long it sticks. Maybe one day I will print and bind my own deluxe planner. I may also eventually post the PDF here for download (or at least the templates for each page if not the whole thing). Right now, it is so many pages that I have to keep each month separate in Canva due to the file size.

Are you team digital planner or team physical planner?
