I haven’t had this much fun with a book since reading ‘The Martian.’ Martha Wells’ Murderbot Diaries series is pure science fiction fun, with a fast-pace, great storyline, and a misanthropic robot that has managed to go rogue from its’ programming, but really just wants to watch the entertainment feed rather than deal with annoying humans. Murderbot isn’t really a great security robot, even though everyone around it seems to think so.

I found the novellas via Audible+, and listed to all 4. Kevin Free as narrator was excellent, and captured Murderbot’s dry humor and exasperation perfectly. I am planning to move onto the novels now to continue on in the series.
Before these books, I had only read Martha Wells’ fantasy books, ‘The Witch King’ and “City of Bones,’ and there are shared threads in all of the lead characters between those books and Murderbot. They all have to deal with people they would rather not, and all of them want to desperately be elsewhere than dealing with the problems that have managed to find them.
If you’re looking for a fun new sci-fi series, I highly recommend this one.
