Books and Cozy Chaos

Authors and Extras

Sometimes when you join an author newsletter, you get sneak peeks, some cute bonus epilogues, and maybe some behind-the-scenes news. I’m on a few author newsletter lists, mainly of authors that I love, to keep up with new releases and such.

I discovered Evelyn Skye when I got to read an ARC earlier this year of her book ‘The Hundred Loves of Juliet’ via NetGalley. Falling in love with this book was easy. Heartfelt and romantic and a little suspense as well. I quickly joined her newsletter. And in one of those letters this year sent to my email inbox, near the bottom, was a note that if we responded to the email with out address, she would send a postcard from her writing retreat. First of all, I thought it sounded a little too good to be true, but I replied anyway and sent my address. And the promptly forgot about it.

Imagine my surprise when a few months later, a postcard from Solvang and Evelyn Skye wound up in my mailbox. This may be one of my favorite pieces of author mail (including all the fun stuff that comes in my Katee Robert Patreon subscription boxes). And Solvang is a town I’m familiar with, as I grew up a few hours from there and we would go visit the tourist town when vacationing in the area.

Little things like this, when I know authors get pulled in thousands of different directions, mean a lot to us readers. I mean, I would like her books without something like this, but actually getting a response felt kinda nice. Right now it is held up by a magnet on my info board by my desk, but someday it’ll end up framed, I’m sure.
