Books and Cozy Chaos

Light It Up

You know when you live for a long time under certain conditions, when those conditions change it can make you question why it took so long to make the change? Yeah, that happened to me recently in regards to actually putting up lamps in my apartment. The only overhead lighting is a couple of ceiling fans, and I had one other floor lamp that I’ve had forever from target trying valiantly to pick up the slack.

Finally, FINALLY, I went to IKEA and picked up some of their Barlast lamps. I think part of what took me so long to make the change is that household goods are expensive, and lamps seem excessively so. These ones, while definitely simple, have. clean minimal look, and the two floor lamps and two side lamps all in total cost less than $30. Lightbulbs sold separately (and those cost just as much as the lamps, tbh).

I’m in love with how much they warm up the space. After living hear for over three years, it’s finally starting to feel like a home. I’ve got things settled in places that make the most sense for my life and needs. One thing I did a while ago was remove my dining room table and turn that area into a study nook/mini library. Much more my style. I never eat at a table, so for me it was wasted space. I still have it, the top under my bed in storage and the two pedestal pieces with the legs are now covered with tablecloths and being used as side tables wherever I need them that day.

I also finally gave up trying to keep live plants alive and have adopted more fake ones, especially in my bedroom. It makes it feel more lush and cozy in there. Not quite a jungle, but definitely a more serene space to spend the evenings as I wind down and go to sleep.

Making a home is a process, and I am enjoying the slow evolution of things as they come and go in my space these days.
