I read to escape. I read to explore. I read to learn and grow and expand my experiences. Reading opens up opportunity, and allows you to see and come into contact with worlds that you may not otherwise be exposed to.
And in all of this, the act of reading is inherently political, a reflection of you and your choices. What you read is a choice. You can read books that reinforce your own experiences and worldview. Or you can actively seek out books that challenge yourself and your ideals. Yes, sometimes we just read to have fun, but even those fun books can have unexpected meaning beyond an entertaining storyline.
But at it’s core, reading allows us to live, to dream, to image what could be different. Imagine what we could have. And for that, it makes life all the sweeter.
