Books and Cozy Chaos

What I Read in September

The first full month of classes did slow me down a bit. But, a solid 15 books this month, with a mix of novellas, audiobooks, ARCs, and others. Everything other than the audiobooks were read as an eBook. Honestly, that’s how I read most books these days.

Absolutely loved The League of Lady Poisoners (so much so that I bought a copy for myself the day it came out)! The artwork is stunning and it is an interesting look at a history of murder by poison, carried out by women.

Masters of Death is now my favorite Olivie Blake book. The nephew of Death ends up helping a vampire help a ghost to stop haunting his house. And there are past lovers, gambling gods and immortals, and two archangels trying to clean up a mess before the higher ups have to step in. Although I did follow it up with reading One for My Enemy (also by Olivie Blake), and that one did not hit for me like her other books have. Still decent, but after Masters of Death it definitely felt a little hollow.

Loved the audio version of Knot Your Damn Omega. That book is one of my favorite Omegaverse romances, and the narrators for the audio (Lessa Lamb and Aiden Snow) were perfect for Esme and the pack. Loved! I also loved an ARC that will be coming out here in the US in November, One Night in Hartswood. A sweet, pining historical queer romance that made me not hate the “mistaken identity” trope.

Honestly, a fair amount of other reading was done this month, but a lot of it was rereads of stuff that I have read multiple times before. Comfort books, if you will. I don’t have to expend a ton of bandwidth on them, since I know what happens. But I do want to read something. The only time I count a “reread” on my lists here is if I go from book to audiobook (or vice versa) and change formats. It’s a bit like rewatching old TV shows. I need to consume media, but not spend a lot of energy to do it. And this month has been a lot work-wise, so my mind was less available for new entertainment. Gone are the summer days of 30+ books a month. And that is OK. There is a season for everything, and right now is not my prime reading season. But I’m still getting it in, which is what matters to me.

Next month I have a few ARCs to get through. And a few new releases that I am excited about. Along with the never-ending TBR that I am slowly picking through.

All told, the September stats are: 15 books – 3466 pages – 35.73 hours
