Kindle Unlimited has opened my eyes to a VERY wide array of spicy romances. I will read just about anything (or at least give it a try). And when it comes to smut and romance, I am an equal opportunity reader of monsters, shifters, MF, MM, FF, all the combinations of M and F and nonbinary and alien and orc and vampire and…
Honestly, if the plot is good, I really don’t care who or what is falling in love. One of the series I absolutely inhaled and fell in love with is the Necessary Evils series by Onley James. Oh, those Mulvaney boys are something else. A family of murderous psychopaths led by one hot daddy himself, Thomas Mulvaney. Each book follows a different Mulvaney finding their significant other (all couples in these books are MM). And the Mulvaney boys do nothing by halves. Adam and Noah have a special place in my heart, as they are the couple from book 1 (Unhinged). And Thomas and Aiden just damn near break your heart in book 7 (Maniac).
The general summary of this world is that Thomas Mulvaney is a billionaire with a unique set of adopted sons. Each boy displayed psychopathic tendencies, and Thomas took them all in to see if he could mold them into something that could actually do good – be members of society that killed those the justice system could not take out. Like vigilante trust-fund kids. Think Professor X’s School for the Gifted, but we’re making murderers here instead of superheroes (although to some these boys are superheroes).
Each book follows a different Mulvaney stumbling upon their partner and basically going “You’re mine.” And then spend the rest of the story convincing the newcomer that yes, they may murder, but they also will do anything for you and obsess over you, and if they could feel an emotion like love this might be it. Part of the fun of these books is the dry, sarcastic humor and snarky banter within the family. Each book is also surprisingly emotional and heartfelt, considering the career field that the Mulvaneys are in.
The surrounding characters (oh, Calliope is the BEST) just add flavor. If you’re looking for pure, escapist, unhinged fun with some very spicy times, this series is one you should definitely check out. Plus, the nicknames are *chef’s kiss* perfection. Freckles, Lois, Katniss, Kitten, the Feelings Faction…
