One of my favorite things is to find new bookstores to wander around (and wish that I had more money to buy more books). I thought it might be fun to highlight some of the independent bookstores that I manage to get to. First on the list is The Painted Porch in Bastrop, TX (they also have an Instagram). From their own About page:
The Painted Porch is a small-town bookstore, literally right in the heart of Main Street, Texas. Owned and operated by Ryan Holiday (author of The Obstacle Is the Way, The Daily Stoic, etc.), The Painted Porch carries a small collection of only our absolute favorite books. We don’t care what’s new or trendy, only what’s amazing. If it’s on our shelves, it’s because we read it and think that you should too. Period.
My favorite thing about the store, visually, is the fireplace (in the photo above on the right). It is built from stacked books and is basically an art installation. In front of it is a large couch that, if I lived closer, I could imagine sitting on and reading and just enjoying the view from.
It’s a relatively small store but has a decent selection of all sorts of genres. I am a fantasy girlie at heart, and their fantasy section has a good variety of current series and popular books. They also have cute tchotchkes and a sticker variety that I LOVE. Show me a funny sticker and I will buy it and find somewhere to adhere it to. Next to books, I like to buy. all. the. stickers.
The staff is friendly, and the atmosphere as a whole is cozy and cute and I can definitely see myself going back when I make it to that area again. So glad my friend let me know about it and came to explore it with me.
